Andalusian Government Faces Corruption Allegations

Published: 2024-10-03

The Andalusian branch of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) has filed a lawsuit against the regional government led by the People's Party (PP) for alleged embezzlement and misconduct in awarding emergency contracts worth 300 million euros.

These contracts, issued by the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) between 2021 and 2023, were reportedly granted without competitive bidding, raising concerns about transparency and legality.

The PSOE claims that these practices continued even after the legal provisions allowing such emergency contracts were repealed.

The Andalusian government, however, defends its actions, citing the urgency of the COVID-19 pandemic as justification.

The case has been admitted by the Seville Court, marking a significant political challenge for the current administration as it faces scrutiny over its handling of public funds.
