The Spanish Civil Guard is conducting searches at the home and business premises of entrepreneur Juan Carlos Barrabés as part of an investigation involving Begoña Gómez, the wife of Spain's Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.
The investigation, led by Judge Juan Carlos Peinado, is examining allegations of influence peddling and business corruption linked to Gómez.
Barrabés, who was a professor in a master's program directed by Gómez at the Complutense University of Madrid, is under scrutiny for receiving public contracts worth millions, allegedly influenced by Gómez's recommendations.
The searches are part of a separate, confidential case focusing on these contracts, with no arrests expected.
Barrabés has previously met with both Gómez and Sánchez, discussing innovation-related topics, and has denied any wrongdoing.
The investigation also involves examining the role of Gómez in supporting Barrabés's business ventures, which have secured significant public funding.
