A new documentary titled "7.291" has been released, shedding light on the tragic deaths of elderly residents in Madrid's care homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Directed by Juanjo Castro, the film delves into the controversial "protocols of shame" that allegedly prevented the transfer of 7,291 elderly patients to hospitals in March and April 2020. The documentary is based on extensive footage from the Madrid Assembly's investigation and interviews with key figures, including Alberto Reyero, a former regional minister who resigned over the crisis.

Despite its critical acclaim, the film's broadcast on public television remains uncertain, as Telemadrid has not confirmed whether it will air the documentary.

This has sparked political tensions, with the opposition party Más Madrid urging for its broadcast, arguing it serves the public interest.

Meanwhile, the regional government, led by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has dismissed these calls, accusing the opposition of exploiting the tragedy for political gain.
