The Spanish government has approved a new healthcare funding plan for Muface, ensuring continued coverage for 1.5 million public employees and their families.
Following a crisis where insurers rejected an earlier offer, the Council of Ministers has increased funding by 33.5%, allocating €4.478 billion for 2025-2027. This move comes after insurers like Adeslas and Asisa initially declined to renew their contracts, citing insufficient compensation.
The new agreement extends the contract period to three years, with a significant rise in premiums to address insurer concerns.
Minister Pilar Alegría assured affected employees that their healthcare services will remain uninterrupted.
The decision highlights the government’s commitment to preserving this unique healthcare model for public workers.
