In his first official act as President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa visited the central headquarters of the Mossos d'Esquadra in Sabadell to express his unwavering support for the Catalan police.
This visit comes in the wake of the failed attempt to detain former President Carles Puigdemont, which has put the police force under scrutiny.
Illa emphasized the need for the Mossos to operate free from political confrontation, promising to expand the force to 22,000 officers by 2030. Accompanied by the new Interior Minister, Núria Parlon, Illa met with police leadership and union representatives to discuss their concerns.
Despite the controversy surrounding Puigdemont's escape, Illa assured that the Mossos have the full backing of his government, highlighting their role in ensuring public safety across Catalonia.
The visit underscores Illa's commitment to strengthening public services and maintaining security as key priorities of his administration.
