The Superior Court of Justice of Madrid has annulled key provisions of the city's Low Emission Zones (ZBE) following a legal challenge by the political group Vox.
The court found the economic impact assessments supporting the zones insufficient, particularly concerning their effects on economically vulnerable groups.
Despite the ruling, the zones and associated fines remain in effect for at least 30 days, during which the city can appeal.
The annulment raises concerns about potential impacts on air quality improvements achieved in recent years.
The city has 30 days to appeal the decision, which could lead to further legal proceedings if upheld by the Supreme Court.
