Madrid's busiest metro line is set for a major upgrade.
The regional government has announced plans to automate Line 6, introducing driverless trains by 2030. This ambitious project, with a budget of 129 million euros, aims to increase train frequency to every two minutes.
The renovation will require a six-month closure in 2025, split into two phases.
The upgrades include track replacements and new noise reduction systems.
Officials assure that no jobs will be lost, as current drivers will be reassigned to other lines.
Line 8 to the airport is next in line for automation, marking a significant step in Madrid's public transport modernization.
