A massive security operation unfolded at the Moroccan border with Ceuta to prevent a large-scale crossing attempt into the Spanish city.

This action followed viral social media campaigns urging people to storm the border on September 15. Moroccan authorities deployed unprecedented numbers of security forces in Fnideq, near Ceuta, and conducted numerous arrests, particularly targeting young Moroccans and sub-Saharan migrants.

Spanish and Moroccan forces were on high alert, with Spanish police and the Guardia Civil reinforcing their presence in Ceuta.

The situation led to significant delays at the El Tarajal border crossing due to security checks.

The Moroccan government reported that in August alone, they thwarted over 14,000 illegal entry attempts into Ceuta and Melilla, highlighting the ongoing migration pressure in the region.
