Minister Defends Rail Service Amid Criticism

Published: 2024-08-23

In a recent Senate session, Spain's Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, defended the country's rail service amidst criticism from the Popular Party (PP) over recent disruptions.

Puente acknowledged the challenges faced during the summer but emphasized that the rail system is experiencing its best period, with record passenger numbers.

He attributed some issues to ongoing infrastructure improvements and urged patience from the public.

The minister also addressed accusations of negligence, highlighting significant investments in the rail network.

Despite calls for his resignation from opposition parties, Puente maintained that the service quality remains high and improvements are underway.

He also noted that the current punctuality commitment aligns with European standards, despite recent adjustments.
