After four days of intense searching, 23-year-old hiker Senén Turienzo Llamazares has been found alive in the Picos de Europa.

The young man, who disappeared on Christmas Day during a trek between Bejes and Covadonga, was located in the Jou de los Boches area by a rescue helicopter.

His disappearance had triggered a massive search operation involving emergency teams from Cantabria and Asturias, as well as specialized mountain rescue units and drones.

Despite initial disagreements over deploying the Military Emergency Unit (UME), the coordinated efforts of various teams proved successful.

Turienzo is now being evacuated for medical care, bringing relief to his family and the rescue teams.
