A shocking attack occurred at the Santo Espíritu del Monte monastery in Gilet, Valencia, where a man assaulted several friars.

The assailant, described as a 46-year-old Spanish national with a history of drug abuse and police records, entered the monastery on Saturday morning, claiming to be "Jesus Christ" and attacked the friars with sticks and a bottle.

Four friars were injured, with one in critical condition.

The attacker fled the scene but was later apprehended by the Guardia Civil in a nearby town.

The incident has left the local community in disbelief, as the monastery is known for its peaceful environment.
