PP Pushes for Extended Parental Leave

Published: 2024-09-28

The Popular Party (PP) in Spain, led by Alberto Núñez Feijóo, is advocating for significant reforms in parental leave and family support policies.

The party proposes extending maternity and paternity leave from 16 to 20 weeks, allowing parents to choose when to take their leave within the first year of their child's life.

This marks a shift from their previous stance in 2019 when they opposed similar expansions.

Additionally, the PP suggests increasing the tax deduction for working mothers from €1,200 to €1,800 annually and supports free childcare across Spain, estimating a cost of €4 billion, with the state covering half.

These measures aim to enhance family life and work-life balance, positioning the PP as a progressive alternative in Spanish politics.
