PP Seeks Recusal of Constitutional Court Judges in ERE Case

Published: 2024-07-11

The Spanish People's Party (PP) has announced plans to request the recusal of two Constitutional Court magistrates, Inmaculada Montalbán and María Luisa Balaguer, in the ERE corruption case.

They also demand that Court President Cándido Conde-Pumpido step aside from related appeals.

The PP cites potential conflicts of interest, noting Montalbán's involvement in 22 ERE-related sentences and Balaguer's role in 28 relevant rulings.

Conde-Pumpido previously abstained from the case as a Supreme Court magistrate.

The party argues these actions are necessary to ensure impartiality in reviewing the largest corruption scandal in Spain's history, involving the misuse of 680 million euros in public funds.
