The Popular Party (PP) is escalating its legal battle against Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez for failing to convene the Conference of Presidents, a crucial forum for discussing regional issues.
Six autonomous communities governed by the PP, including Madrid, Andalusia, and the Balearic Islands, have announced plans to file a lawsuit in the Supreme Court.
They argue that Sánchez has not fulfilled his legal obligation to hold this meeting at least twice a year, as stipulated in the conference's regulations.
The last meeting occurred in March 2022, and since then, the PP has repeatedly requested a new gathering to address pressing matters such as immigration and regional financing.
The PP leaders are united in their stance, emphasizing that urgent issues cannot be postponed due to Sánchez's inaction.
This legal move comes amid concerns over potential concessions to Catalonia in ongoing negotiations.
