Prosecutor Clears Judge in Leak Case

Published: 2024-09-11

The Spanish Public Prosecutor's Office has dismissed allegations against Judge Juan Carlos Peinado and the press chief of the Madrid High Court regarding the alleged illegal leak of proceedings in a case involving Begoña Gómez, the wife of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.

The prosecutor, Almudena Lastra, pointed to Aitor Guisasola, a lawyer for one of the popular accusations, as the likely source of the leak.

Guisasola allegedly shared confidential details on his YouTube channel and social media.

Meanwhile, the State Attorney's Office has filed a separate complaint against Judge Peinado for potential judicial misconduct, accusing him of issuing an "arbitrary or unjust" resolution by summoning Sánchez to testify in person, rather than allowing a written statement.

The prosecutor's office sees grounds for investigating this claim, suggesting Peinado's actions may have deviated from standard legal procedures.
