Health authorities have issued a warning about the presence of salmonella in a batch of BonÀrea's Iberian fuet, a type of cured sausage, distributed across several Spanish regions including Aragón, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Valencia, Madrid, La Rioja, and Navarra.
The affected batch, numbered 6170199, has a best-before date of October 15, 2024, and is sold in 180-gram packages.
Consumers are advised not to eat the product and to return it to the point of purchase for a refund.
The alert was raised after routine checks by the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) and the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI) detected the contamination.
While no health issues have been reported yet, symptoms of salmonellosis can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever, and can be severe in vulnerable groups such as infants and the elderly.
BonÀrea has removed the affected products from sale and is cooperating with authorities to ensure consumer safety.
