Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is set to meet with regional leaders from some of Spain's most underfunded areas, including Castilla-La Mancha, Murcia, and Valencia.
The discussions, held at La Moncloa, are expected to be challenging as regional leaders demand a reform of the outdated autonomous financing system.
Fernando López Miras of Murcia and Carlos Mazón of Valencia are pushing for a multilateral approach to debt relief, while Emiliano García-Page of Castilla-La Mancha opposes special financial arrangements for Catalonia.
López Miras is also advocating for a rescue plan for Murcia's agricultural sector, emphasizing the need for continued water transfers and EU funding.
The meetings coincide with a forum in Galicia where the national leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, is speaking, highlighting the political tensions surrounding these negotiations.
