Sánchez to Testify in Corruption Investigation

Published: 2024-07-22

Judge Juan Carlos Peinado has summoned Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to testify on July 30 regarding the investigation into his wife, Begoña Gómez, who is accused of influence peddling and business corruption.

The testimony will take place at the official residence of the Prime Minister, La Moncloa, at 11:00 AM.

This decision follows Gómez's refusal to testify last week, prompting the far-right party Vox to request Sánchez's appearance.

Peinado emphasized the importance of understanding the potential connections between Gómez and authorities, as several witnesses have reported meetings with her at La Moncloa.

The judge will also investigate Joaquín Goyache, the rector of the Complutense University of Madrid, who has been reclassified as a suspect in the case.
