The Spanish government has agreed to declassify eight documents related to the 2017 Barcelona and Cambrils terror attacks.
This decision follows demands from the Junts party and aligns with a formal request from the Congress investigation committee.
The documents include records of visits by intelligence agents to Abdelbaki Es Satty, the alleged mastermind of the attacks, during his imprisonment for drug trafficking.
Former intelligence chief Félix Sanz Roldán confirmed these visits but denied Es Satty was an informant or that the agency had prior knowledge of the attacks.
The move aims to shed light on the events that led to the tragedy, which claimed 16 lives and injured hundreds.
