Spain Delays 2025 Budget Plan Submission

Published: 2024-10-07

The Spanish government has announced a delay in submitting its 2025 budget plan to the European Commission, missing the original deadline of October 15. This decision comes as the Commission requires new economic measures to accompany any budget extensions.

Despite the delay, Spain will present its medium-term fiscal plan on the same date, outlining the country's budgetary adjustment path for the coming years.

Economy Minister Carlos Cuerpo confirmed the commitment to the fiscal plan, which aligns with the new European fiscal rules.

The government aims to reduce the public deficit to 3% of GDP this year, with further reductions planned through 2027. The delay in the budget plan is attributed to ongoing political challenges in securing parliamentary support for new budget measures.
