Spain Denies Involvement in Venezuela Plot

Published: 2024-09-16

In a diplomatic standoff, Spain has firmly denied any involvement in an alleged plot to destabilize the Venezuelan government, following the arrest of two Spanish tourists in Venezuela.

The two men, Andrés Martínez Adasme and José María Basoa Valdovinos, were accused by Venezuelan authorities of being agents of Spain's National Intelligence Center (CNI) and part of a conspiracy against President Nicolás Maduro.

However, their families and the Spanish government have refuted these claims, asserting that the men were merely tourists.

The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has demanded access to the detainees to verify their identities and provide necessary assistance.

This incident has further strained relations between Spain and Venezuela, with the Venezuelan government accusing Spain of interference, while Spain insists on a peaceful resolution to the political tensions in Venezuela.
