Spain's Supreme Court has launched a formal investigation into Álvaro García Ortiz, the country's Attorney General, marking the first time a sitting Attorney General faces such scrutiny.
The investigation centers on allegations of revealing confidential information following a press release intended to counter false claims involving Isabel Díaz Ayuso's partner.
The court's decision was unanimous among the five judges involved, and it also includes an investigation into Pilar Rodríguez Fernández, the chief prosecutor of Madrid.
Despite the investigation, García Ortiz has decided to remain in his position, citing the importance of stability for the institution.
The case will be overseen by Judge Ángel Luis Hurtado, who will determine the next steps, including potential testimonies from García Ortiz and Rodríguez Fernández.
The controversy stems from a press release that allegedly contained personal data, which the Supreme Court is examining for potential breaches of confidentiality laws.
