The Spanish Supreme Court has refused to apply the Amnesty Law to former Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont, sparking a heated debate.
The court argues that the misuse of public funds for the independence referendum constitutes personal enrichment, making it ineligible for amnesty.
However, the public prosecutor's office has appealed this decision, stating that there was no intent for personal gain.
The government, led by Minister Félix Bolaños, has criticized the Supreme Court's stance, asserting that the law is being applied normally with over 70 people already amnestied.
This legal battle highlights the ongoing tensions between the judiciary and the government over Catalonia's independence movement.
