Tensions Rise Amidst DANA Crisis Response

Published: 2024-11-05

In the wake of the devastating DANA storms that have ravaged Valencia and other parts of Spain, tensions have risen between the Spanish government and the Generalitat of Valencia.

The storms have claimed 215 lives, with 211 fatalities in Valencia alone.

The military's response has been a point of contention, with Carlos Mazón, President of the Generalitat, criticizing the central government's handling of the crisis.

Defense Minister Margarita Robles and Vice President Yolanda Díaz have defended the military, emphasizing that the UME (Military Emergency Unit) acted under the Generalitat's directives.

Despite public disagreements, coordination between the two administrations continues, with 7,800 military personnel now deployed in the affected areas.

The Spanish government is set to declare the hardest-hit regions as severely affected zones, enabling the release of emergency aid to support recovery efforts.
