An 80-year-old man is in a state of brain death after being struck by a water drop from a firefighting aircraft while attempting to extinguish a fire in Alía, Cáceres.
The incident occurred as the fire, which had reached level 1 danger, threatened the area near a local swimming pool.
Despite the efforts of local residents using buckets and hoses, the man was severely injured by the aerial water drop.
He was urgently airlifted to the University Hospital of Cáceres, where he remains in critical condition in the ICU.
The fire has since been brought under control, but the tragic accident has deeply affected the small community of Alía, which has suspended local festivities in response.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
