Valencia Court Reinforced for Dana Case

The court in Catarroja, Valencia, has been reinforced to handle the investigation into the management of the devastating Dana storm.

The Council General of the Judiciary (CGPJ) approved the addition of a new judge to manage routine court operations, allowing Judge Nuria Ruiz Tobarra to focus solely on the case.

The storm, which struck in October 2024, caused 228 deaths and significant destruction.

The CGPJ's decision follows reports of severe workload pressures, with the court operating at over 140% capacity in recent years.

While the Spanish government has supported the reinforcement, the CGPJ clarified that such measures fall under its jurisdiction, with the Ministry of Justice only providing financial approval.

The investigation has already implicated former regional officials, raising questions about political accountability during the disaster.
