An 86-year-old woman from La Puebla del Río, Seville, has died after contracting the West Nile Virus.
This marks the second fatality in the region, following the death of a 71-year-old woman from Dos Hermanas.
Health authorities have also detected the virus in a 65-year-old man from Coria del Río who passed away, though his death may not be directly attributed to the virus.
The Andalusian government has urged local administrations to take urgent action to control the Culex mosquito population, which transmits the virus.
Officials stress the importance of preventive measures, especially for vulnerable populations, including using insect repellents and wearing protective clothing during peak mosquito hours.
