Young people in Spain face significant challenges in achieving independence, as revealed by a new report from the Consejo de la Juventud de España (CJE).
Only 14.8% of those under 30 have managed to move out of their parents' homes, the lowest rate since 2006. Among those who have, 87% share their living spaces, often due to financial necessity.
High housing costs force 40% of young renters to spend over 40% of their income on rent, far exceeding affordability guidelines.
Many also endure substandard living conditions, with 3% living in rooms without windows or balconies.
The report highlights that most young people rent, with 70% relying on their own income, though 30% still need family support.
The CJE calls for urgent action, stating that independence should not be a luxury.
