Zaplana Sentenced for Corruption in Valencia

Published: 2024-10-15

Eduardo Zaplana, former president of the Generalitat Valenciana and ex-minister, has been sentenced to over ten years in prison for corruption.

The Valencia court found him guilty of receiving illegal commissions and laundering more than 16 million euros through foreign accounts.

This verdict is part of the 'Erial' case, a significant corruption scandal involving manipulated public contracts.

Zaplana, along with several associates, was convicted of crimes including bribery and money laundering.

The court also imposed fines exceeding 25 million euros and ordered the confiscation of various assets.

While Zaplana's conviction marks a significant moment in Valencia's political history, the case continues to unfold as appeals are expected.
