Barcelona Enforces New Scooter Rules

Barcelona has introduced strict new rules for electric scooters and bicycles to improve pedestrian safety.

Starting February 1, riders must wear helmets, avoid sidewalks, and adhere to speed limits of 25 km/h.

Violations, such as riding on sidewalks or exceeding speed limits, can result in fines up to €500. The rules also ban riders under 16 and require scooters to have front and rear lights.

Bicycles face similar restrictions, with exceptions for young children.

The city aims to create safer public spaces, especially for vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.

Mayor Jaume Collboni emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in making Barcelona more sustainable and secure.
