Canary Islands Hit by Hurricane Winds

Published: 2024-12-15

The Canary Islands are facing severe weather as hurricane-force winds, reaching up to 130 km/h, batter the region.

The islands of El Hierro, La Gomera, and Tenerife are under an orange alert, while La Palma and the eastern islands are on yellow alert.

Schools have been closed in affected areas, and a football match between CD Tenerife and Deportivo de La Coruña has been canceled.

Emergency services have reported numerous incidents, including fallen trees, damaged roofs, and road blockages.

The storm, caused by the Atlantic storm Dorothea, is expected to subside later today, with alerts ending at different times across the islands.
