Debt Forgiveness Sparks Political Clash

Spain's proposed €83 billion regional debt forgiveness plan has ignited a political storm.

The measure, led by Finance Minister María Jesús Montero, was approved despite a mass walkout by 14 opposition councilors from the Popular Party (PP) during a key fiscal meeting.

Montero accused the PP of "cowardice" for avoiding a vote on a proposal she claims benefits their regions.

While some PP representatives hinted they might accept the plan later, others criticized it as politically motivated.

The debt relief, aimed at addressing disparities from past crises, now faces legislative hurdles in Congress.

The debate underscores deep divisions over fiscal policy and regional funding in Spain.
