Salvador Illa, the Socialist candidate, has confirmed he has secured the necessary support to be elected as the new president of Catalonia.

Following a favorable vote from ERC's membership, Illa announced to the President of the Parliament, Josep Rull, that he has the backing of 68 deputies, ensuring a slim majority.

Illa emphasized that the agreements made with ERC and the Comuns are not against anyone but aim to improve the lives of Catalans, particularly focusing on issues like housing and fiscal sovereignty.

He expressed his commitment to fully implement these agreements, despite potential challenges ahead, including the return of former president Carles Puigdemont.

The investiture session is expected to take place next week, marking a significant political shift in Catalonia.
