Oriol Junqueras has solidified his leadership in Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) during the party's congress in Martorell.
After a year of internal conflict, Junqueras reached a deal with critics to withdraw amendments that sought to limit his authority.
In return, the party will formally recognize internal factions, aiming to restore unity.
The congress approved the party's political framework with nearly 90% support, emphasizing collaboration and confrontation with Spain's Socialist Party (PSOE) to advance Catalonia's independence goals.
ERC views the current "weakness" of Spain's government as an opportunity to push for greater concessions, including improved regional funding and control over local rail services.
Junqueras' strengthened position marks a turning point for ERC as it refines its strategy for the coming years.
