Junts per Catalunya is set to hold an extraordinary congress at the end of October, coinciding with the anniversary of the 2017 unilateral declaration of independence.

This decision comes in response to the recent political shifts in Catalonia, where the socialist Salvador Illa has taken office as the new president, marking a significant change in the regional government.

The congress aims to redefine Junts' strategy and leadership, particularly the role of Carles Puigdemont, who remains a central figure despite his controversial return to Catalonia and subsequent escape to Belgium.

Jordi Turull, the party's secretary general, emphasized the need to relaunch the independence movement and position Junts as the leading force against the new "unionist" government.

The party seeks to engage not only its members but also other pro-independence supporters in this strategic realignment.
