The Madrid regional government, led by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has filed a constitutional challenge against Spain's central government over a new migrant child relocation policy.
The policy, agreed upon with the Junts party, redistributes unaccompanied minors from overcrowded areas like Ceuta and the Canary Islands to other regions.
Madrid is set to receive over 800 children, the highest number among all regions.
Ayuso argues the policy violates regional autonomy and lacks sufficient financial planning.
While committing to follow the law, she criticized the central government for bypassing regional leaders and accused it of creating a chaotic system.
Opposition parties have labeled Ayuso's stance as xenophobic, escalating tensions in an already polarized political climate.
