The boyfriend of Madrid's regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has admitted to committing tax fraud involving false invoices worth €1.7 million.
Alberto González Amador initially claimed the discrepancies were unintentional errors, but later confessed to two fiscal crimes.
Despite this, Ayuso and her chief of staff, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, publicly defended him, spreading false information to counter the allegations.
The Spanish tax agency rejected González Amador's attempt to rectify the fraud through a 2022 tax declaration, as investigations were already underway.
Ayuso falsely claimed that the tax agency owed her partner €600,000, a statement contradicted by official findings.
The case has sparked controversy, with critics accusing Ayuso's administration of misleading the public to protect her partner.
