Madrid's Christmas Lights Illuminate the City

Published: 2024-11-29

Madrid has officially kicked off the festive season with the grand illumination of its Christmas lights, a tradition that draws thousands to the city's iconic Puerta del Sol.

This year, the honor of lighting up the city was given to Luis de la Fuente, the national football team's coach, celebrated for leading Spain to its third Euro Cup victory.

The event featured a touching tribute to Valencia, with performances by the children's choir Menudos Cantantes, who sang the Valencian anthem in memory of recent natural disasters.

The city has invested 5.3 million euros in the dazzling display, which includes 12 million LED bulbs, 10 large illuminated trees, and numerous other decorations.

The festivities also included a performance by singer Álvaro de Luna and a spectacular show by Circo Circlássica.

The lights will remain on until January 5th, marking the end of the holiday season.
