Political Shake-Up in Jaén

Published: 2024-12-14

The political landscape in Jaén, Spain, has shifted dramatically as the local party Jaén Merece Más withdrew its support for the ruling Popular Party (PP), citing unmet promises by the Andalusian government.

This move has led to a motion of no confidence against the PP mayor, Agustín González, paving the way for Socialist Julio Millán to return as mayor.

The agreement between Jaén Merece Más and the Socialist Party (PSOE) includes commitments to address the city's massive debt and invest in local infrastructure, echoing similar plans for Teruel.

The PSOE's María Jesús Montero played a key role in securing the deal, which also promises improved public services and economic development for the region.

The motion will be debated on January 2, marking a significant blow to the PP's dominance in Andalusia.
