PP Accepts Migrant Minors Despite Vox Threats

Published: 2024-07-10

The People's Party (PP) in Spain has agreed to accept 400 unaccompanied migrant minors from the Canary Islands and Ceuta, despite threats from far-right party Vox to break coalition governments.

PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo announced this decision hours before a crucial meeting on immigration in Tenerife.

The move challenges Vox's stance, which opposes the distribution of migrants and links them to insecurity.

PP-led regions, including those in coalition with Vox, have confirmed their acceptance of the minors.

Feijóo emphasized that PP-governed communities are already at their limit, hosting 80% of minors in centers across Spain, but will make a final effort to alleviate the exceptional situation in Canary Islands and Ceuta.
