Pompeyo González, a 76-year-old retiree from Miranda de Ebro, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison by Spain's National Court for sending six explosive devices in November 2022. The packages were addressed to high-profile officials, including Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Defense Minister Margarita Robles, as well as the embassies of the United States and Ukraine.
One of the devices exploded at the Ukrainian embassy, injuring a security guard.
The court found González guilty of terrorism and the manufacture of explosive devices, stating he intended to create public panic and pressure the Spanish and U.
S. governments to withdraw support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Evidence against him included DNA found on the packages and the purchase of materials used to create the explosives.
