Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez is visiting India to strengthen economic ties and support Navantia's bid for a €4.8 billion contract to build six submarines for the Indian Navy.
This visit follows German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's trip, where he backed ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS), Navantia's main competitor.
Both countries are vying for the Project 75I contract, which requires advanced Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) systems.
While Germany offers a proven system, Spain's innovative S-80 AIP is more advanced but untested at sea.
Sánchez's visit aims to showcase Spain's technical superiority and foster broader economic relations, including promoting Spain as a hub for Bollywood productions.
