Spain's Immigration Law Reform Talks Resume

Spain is set to resume discussions on reforming its immigration law amid a surge in migrant arrivals.

The government, along with representatives from the Canary Islands, Ceuta, and the Popular Party (PP), will meet next week to negotiate changes to Article 35 of the immigration law.

This reform aims to mandate the distribution of unaccompanied minor migrants across the country.

The talks come as the Canary Islands report a record number of migrant arrivals, with over 41,000 people reaching the islands by November 30, marking a 3.7% increase from the previous year.

The PP has emphasized the need for European collaboration, particularly involving Frontex, to address the crisis effectively.

Despite previous setbacks, there is cautious optimism for reaching an agreement that balances national and European responsibilities.
