Spain's Congress has approved a significant reform of the judicial system, marking what officials call the most substantial change in decades.
The new law, backed by the ruling PSOE and its allies, aims to modernize the justice system by replacing single-judge courts with multi-member tribunals and introducing alternative conflict resolution methods.
This reform, which passed with 179 votes in favor and 168 against, also includes the elimination of 'golden visas' and mandates that courts handling violence against women take on sexual violence cases within nine months.
Critics, including the PP and Vox, argue that the law was rushed and could lead to judicial gridlock.
The law now moves to the Senate, where further amendments are expected.
