The Spanish Supreme Court is intensifying its investigation into Álvaro García Ortiz, the State Attorney General, over allegations of leaking confidential tax information about the partner of Madrid's regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso.
Judge Ángel Hurtado has summoned key witnesses, including Almudena Lastra, Madrid's Chief Prosecutor, and Julián Salto, an Economic Crimes Prosecutor, to testify in January.
The inquiry focuses on missing messages from García Ortiz's phone during the critical period in March 2024, when the alleged leak occurred.
Investigators are also examining communications between the press offices of the General and Madrid Prosecutor's Offices.
The case has sparked significant controversy, with claims that García Ortiz ordered the dissemination of sensitive information.
The Supreme Court aims to uncover the origins of the leak and determine accountability.
