Joaquín Goyache, the rector of the Complutense University of Madrid, has transitioned from being a witness to an investigated party in the case concerning Begoña Gómez, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
This change follows Goyache's testimony on July 5, where he acknowledged that Gómez had approached him at the Moncloa Palace in July 2020 to propose the creation of a new academic chair focused on social responsibility.
The judge, Juan Carlos Peinado, has scheduled Goyache's next appearance for July 29, where he will be questioned as an investigated party.
The investigation centers on potential influence peddling and corruption related to the establishment of this chair.
Goyache has maintained that his actions were legal and that he did not detect any irregularities in Gómez's association with the university.
The case has drawn significant media attention, especially given the political implications involving the Prime Minister's family.
