Valencia Flood Alert Controversy

The Valencian government, led by Carlos Mazón, has disclosed details about the delayed emergency alert during the October 29 floods, which caused 227 deaths.

Under judicial pressure, it was revealed that the decision to send the alert at 8:11 PM was made by the CECOPI, a coordination body led by then-Interior Minister Salomé Pradas and government delegate Pilar Bernabé.

The alert was issued after a warning about the imminent failure of the Forata dam, but no prior notice was given about the Poyo ravine's rising waters, which caused significant devastation.

Criticism has mounted over the delay and lack of communication, with various organizations and families of victims filing lawsuits against officials.

The tragedy has sparked intense scrutiny of the government's emergency response and accountability.
