Valencian President Carlos Mazón has called for unity and collaboration among political parties and institutions to rebuild the region after the devastating October floods that claimed 223 lives and left three missing.
In his New Year’s address, Mazón emphasized the need for effective disaster response systems and a national pact against floods, alongside a fairer regional funding model.
He urged for direct and efficient aid to affected communities and highlighted the importance of learning from the tragedy to prevent future disasters.
While avoiding self-criticism, Mazón assured victims and their families, "You are not alone," and pledged relentless efforts to restore the 103 impacted municipalities.
Opposition leaders, however, criticized his response as inadequate, with some demanding his resignation.
The president also acknowledged the support of emergency workers and the broader community in facing the crisis.
