Valencia's Leadership Reshuffle Amid Crisis

Published: 2024-11-18

In response to the severe criticism following the management of the recent dana crisis, Carlos Mazón, President of the Generalitat Valenciana, has initiated significant changes in his government.

Susana Camarero, previously the Vice President and Minister of Social Services, Equality, and Housing, has been appointed as the new spokesperson for the regional government.

This move is part of a broader restructuring aimed at addressing the aftermath of the devastating floods that affected 78 municipalities and claimed over 219 lives.

Camarero, a seasoned politician with a history in the PP, is expected to play a pivotal role in the government's recovery efforts.

The reshuffle also includes the dismissal of key figures in the Interior and Industry departments, as Mazón seeks to restore public confidence and focus on the region's reconstruction.

The government has allocated an initial budget of 200 million euros for recovery, with further financial support requested from the national government.
