Aitor Esteban, the long-serving spokesperson for the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV), has officially bid farewell to Spain's Congress after 21 years.
Known for his eloquence and dedication, Esteban is leaving to assume leadership of his party in the Basque Country.
His departure was marked by emotional tributes from across the political spectrum, except for the far-right Vox party, which remained silent.
Esteban used his final speech to encourage young people to engage in politics, emphasizing its importance beyond the "noise" seen on television.
He also reiterated his commitment to the Basque agenda and expressed gratitude to colleagues and staff.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez praised Esteban as a "resilient negotiator" and renewed his promise to reform the Official Secrets Act, a long-standing demand of the PNV.
Esteban concluded with the words "Gora Euskadi askatuta" (Long live a free Euskadi), leaving a legacy of respect and dialogue.
